30 Minutes Lunch Break

I now have 30 minutes to be outside of that little office. I could’ve sworn I heard “an hour for lunch” when I was interviewing. I want to say that it doesn’t matter, but it does. 30 minutes isn’t enough time to do anything but rush to some place and type something shitty and then rush right back.

Molly celebrates 6 years today. I wish I could feel happy for her. She looks like the receptionist slug from Monsters Inc. She’s a good worker. She didn’t think she’d be here for so long, but here she sits. for 8 hours a day. Every single day. Helping to make Derek wealthy.

Derek isn’t so easily solved. I want to liken him to Mr. Krabs, but I know there must be more. But maybe not. Maybe everything is a habit. And if all you ever think about and all you ever do is work, then that’s all you are. And maybe that’s okay. Maybe he doesn’t have to go climbing on the weekends or have a side hobby or a real connection with his wife or kids. If he even has kids. I don’t know.

Julie is like a few people I’ve known but I can’t identify exactly how. She tells me “We only have 6 vacation days per year. We only get Christmas Day! Derek so cheap, I know. XD” Like it’s bad weather. Like we have no control over it. I wonder if she wonders: does it have to be this way? What if we, the humans who make this company up, came together and said we want a Christmas vacation. We want to spend time with our families for a few days and just take the briefest of breaks to not think about CPAPs and Respshop dot com. God I’ve been here for just one week and I’m already thinking about starting a union among these people. Zoomers, am I right?
