Thomas Johnston is a writer from the Big Island of Hawaii, born January 5, 1999, who publishes as Worst Boyfriend Ever at jamesguilty.substack.com and worstboyfriendever.blog. As of July 2026 he has been publicly accused of attempted rape. He went by Thomas Sky Johnston Gallo as a child, graduated from high school in 2016 as valedictorian, and attended the University of Southern California on the Mork Family Scholarship, a full-tuition award with a living stipend. At USC he majored in philosophy, minored in marketing, worked in the Child Interviewing Lab, ran social media for the competitive Super Smash Bros. club (where coverage names him Thomas "Aloha" Johnston), and wrote for the satire site Sack of Troy. He then worked remotely for a Seattle advertising agency until early 2023 and for a CPAP supplier in Redmond, Washington from September 11, 2023 until October 22, 2024, when he left Seattle in a $4,000 2005 Chevrolet Astro. He lived out of the van for a year, abandoned it in Tacoma in October 2025, and has since written from Manila and Tokyo. He has published under the names thomas-sky, tsjohnst, and Raised By Screens.

This page assembles what Johnston has published about himself. The record is large: two Medium essays (2020–2021), 405 complete Blogspot entries (2021–2024), 151 post URLs from a Substack called Raised By Screens with body content mostly lost (2024), and 100 Worst Boyfriend Ever posts (2024–2026), of which 86 public bodies totaling 150,244 words were captured, along with 616 public Notes totaling 61,915 words.[1] Johnston has said the Worst Boyfriend Ever stories are based on his life with occasional exaggeration; one post says they are literally true, another carries a fiction disclaimer. Where a claim below exists only in his writing, it is quoted or dated so the reader can weigh it. Every quotation on this page comes from writing Johnston published himself, on the open internet.

What he publishes as Worst Boyfriend Ever

Worst Boyfriend Ever ran from July 2024 through at least July 2026 at jamesguilty.substack.com. The material below is drawn from the public posts, cited by title and date.

Keep readingNo paywall. The rest of the record is right here.

Sexual violence

Johnston has published two posts titled after rape in the first person. "My First Rape" (December 11, 2024) describes sex with a woman he portrays as dissociating: "she just felt nothing, so to me it kind of felt like a rape." The post ends, "My potential publisher broke up with me, so now I'm back to blogging things like 'My First Rape' YOLO." It drew 269 likes and 120 comments. "My Second Rape" (July 27, 2025) was published for paid subscribers only, so its 2,732-word body is not in the public capture. Its subtitle is public: "Look... Consent is Tricky when you're a Genius."

The pattern is not confined to titles. In "Taking a Readers' Virginity" (December 31, 2024), about a 19-year-old fan, he writes that she told him "if you touch me I'll scream," and continues: "So despite her verbal warnings I slipped my hand around her neck anyways." In "Exploiting My OnlyFans Girlfriend" (June 3, 2026) he writes that he "came inside her while she was telling me no." "Forcing a Harvard Girl" (May 28, 2025) includes: "my body was ready to fuck but my brain wasn't drunk enough to rape. Why is this always so tricky..." In the same post he describes trying to photograph the woman in her sleep at 4 a.m. In "Explaining My Blog to the Police" (April 11, 2025) he writes of a 20-year-old reader: "What I did to Amy last night nearly amounts to a rape. She wouldn't tell me whether or not she 'wanted it.'" Earlier in the post, describing months of contact with the same woman, the captured text reads: "since then I have been grooming opening her mind sexually over the phone."

In "Hiding in Girls' Rooms" (August 23, 2025), a woman tells the narrator "I don't think you have it in you to rape, murder, etc." His response on the page: "privately I know she's wrong but publicly I agree." The same post describes deciding to "turn the rape-dials down, for her sake." "Explaining My Blog to the Police" mentions, in passing, a text warning him that a woman from the blog had found a lawyer who was "rounding up Victims of the Worst Boyfriend Ever to bring suit against me."

Minors

In "Sexting Teenaged Girls" (June 19, 2026), Johnston recounts an exchange with an account that texted him "I'm 16 is that okay?" His reply, as he reports it: "yes, that's fine. Just send the money. It's fine." He then reproduces the explicit lines he wrote on request, including the age. He frames the counterparty as a probable scammer; the messages he says he sent are quoted without that qualification. In "Explaining My Blog to the Police," the narrator inventories what the officer beside his van does not know about, including "the drunk underaged girl" inside it and cocaine in a drawer. An earlier paid post (September 16, 2024) is titled "The Teenager"; its slug is deflowering-an-18-year-old-in-an.

Racial slurs

Johnston writes the word "nigger" as a running gag. The two forms appear 28 times across 13 of the 86 public post bodies, and 21 more times in his public Notes.[1] "You Look Good for 67" (April 28, 2026) opens: "I hit a nigger with my van yesterday. Not on purpose." "Fucking This Fat Ginger Bitch to Break the Dry Spell" (September 12, 2025) opens: "Good nigger morning." "Scamming My Audience for $30,000" (January 10, 2026) closes with a mock sponsorship telling readers to use the slur as a discount code at Japanese convenience stores. He has also published a ranking post titled "The Different Sub-Races of Asian Girls, Ranked" (February 16, 2025) and a status update titled "My Racist Sexist Van Life" (February 22, 2025), his own label.

Other conduct he describes

"The Hit and Run" (October 23, 2025) describes drinking vodka while driving to an ex-girlfriend's home in Seattle, striking a car, and leaving: "i have no insurance... i've hit and run before i'll do it again, i'm drunk." He then describes running a red light onto the highway with the other driver in pursuit. "You Look Good for 67," six months later, opens with the van striking a second vehicle, this time with the owner present. "Breaking and Entering in Evanston IL" (September 10, 2025) describes taking items from vacated student apartments and sleeping in one without permission. "Scamming My Audience for $30,000" describes faking an appeal to readers while high on cough syrup and collecting roughly $30,000–$40,000: "which caused me to become evil, which caused me to run a scam on my audience for $30,000." Cocaine, MDMA, and daily Adderall use recur throughout; one paid post (August 7, 2025) is titled "I Sold My Soul for Adderall."

The audience as raw material

Johnston's readers appear in the stories as sexual partners, hosts, and donors. "The quality of girls I attract improves in relation to my subscriber count online," he writes in "Explaining My Blog to the Police." The woman in "Taking a Readers' Virginity" contacted him through the blog. "Dating 8 Girls at Once in New York City" (May 19, 2025), at 15,304 words the longest public post, catalogs a rotation of women, several of them readers. In "Why I'm Homeless Now" (December 14, 2024) he concedes that he sometimes pursued an experience partly because it would make a story. His most-liked post in the capture is "Slut Review: Katie from Hinge" (September 2, 2024; 432 likes, 150 comments), a rated writeup of a date.

Proof of Attribution

The most direct link runs through his phone number. Johnston's December 2020 resume lists 808-464-9179, a Hawaii number, alongside his name and the address tsjohnst@usc.edu.[2] That same number is registered to the Telegram account @worstboyfriendever — the publication's own name — connecting the résumé identity to the pen name without reference to a single line of the writing.

Worst Boyfriend Ever confirms the identification in its own pages. In "Hiding in Girls' Rooms," caught in a college student's bedroom by her father, the narrator introduces himself: "I said Hi… I'm Thomas… I'm Kim's friend." The same post reports that a reader "fed all my info to ChatGPT and asked it to find my identity, and it WORKED!" "Sparing Layla's Virginity" (April 3, 2025) says the boyfriend of a woman from "My First Rape" found the blog, "sent it to everyone I know," got him "banned from my past life," and was still circulating his face and phone number five months later.

His December 2020 resume also names Thomas Johnston of Hawaii: USC philosophy major, marketing minor, Mork Family Scholarship, Smash Club social media director, Sack of Troy staff writer.[2] An AdmitSee profile under thomas1738 repeats the same cluster: Hawaii, philosophy, USC, 2016 graduation, full scholarship.[3] The thomas-sky Medium account and the tsjohnst Blogspot carry the same life story in first person, and 83 post slugs from the Blogspot reappear on the Raised By Screens Substack.[4] Raised By Screens and Worst Boyfriend Ever retell the same events, including the SAT scheme and the Seattle jobs. Blogspot posts on January 5 mark his birthday; a Worst Boyfriend Ever post set on January 5, 2026 has the narrator turning 27.[5]

Life before the pen name

Hawaii

Johnston grew up on the Big Island. One post places the family home in Kailua-Kona; a later phone record points to Hilo. As a child he used the name Thomas Sky Johnston Gallo and wrote it on his schoolwork until about age ten ("Thomas Sky", March 2022; revised May 2022). His mother homeschooled him for a period and had him skip grades. His father drank heavily; in "The case against friendship" (November 2023) Johnston describes him as a man loved by nearly everyone who numbed his shame about poverty with alcohol and drugs.

High school

Johnston graduated in 2016 as his school's valedictorian and won the Mork Family Scholarship to USC, a full-tuition award with a living stipend worth about $300,000.[2] By his own account he cheated systematically to get there. The Medium essay "Cheating in High School" (January 2021) describes stealing future exams, arranging absences so friends could photograph tests, and reading College Confidential threads posted by East Coast students who had taken the same SAT six hours earlier. He writes that he reached the valedictorian podium without learning much of the material. A Raised By Screens story, "Do You Like This Story", reworks the SAT episode as fiction about a cheating device built into Google Glasses.

USC

His resume dates USC attendance from August 2017 to May 2021; two memoir posts place his freshman year in 2016, at seventeen.[6] He majored in philosophy, minored in marketing, made the Dean's List each semester, and worked in the Child Interviewing Lab from January 2019. He was social media communications director for the USC Smash Club from August 2019 (USC Annenberg coverage names Thomas "Aloha" Johnston) and wrote six pieces for the satire site Sack of Troy between August 2020 and January 2021.[2][3] His own posts about the period concern drinking culture, tournaments, and women; "Freshman Year" records lying to a girl about attending a Smash tournament. He says he began writing for pleasure in his last semester, during the pandemic.

Seattle

By December 2021 Johnston was in Seattle, working remotely for an advertising agency ("3 Months In Seattle"). In early 2023 he quit without telling his girlfriend or parents, collected unemployment, and attended a ten-day silent meditation retreat in Idaho, where he smuggled a notebook into the bathroom to keep writing. That September a small CPAP supplier in Redmond hired him for a general marketing role, starting September 11, 2023 ("Becoming Employed"). He told the owner he wanted to write as much as possible and eventually own a business ("Passions, Goals, Interests").

The writing, 2021–2024

Johnston kept private notes from at least early 2021; in September 2021 the Notes app deleted nine months of them, and Blogspot became his backup ("All my writing is gone"). The captured feeds contain 405 posts dated September 4, 2021 through February 3, 2024: 30 in 2021, 185 in 2022, 189 in 2023, one in 2024, totaling 62,774 words.[4] Subjects include jobs he hated, weed, Adderall, dating apps, social anxiety, his appearance, and Smash tournaments. "The Worst Thing I've Ever Done" (January 2023) says he ended a six-month relationship by disappearing. "My Parents Don't Know I Do This" makes concealment from his parents the subject. He saw a therapist once in 2022 and did not return ("Therapy").

In February 2024 he moved selected work to a Substack, Raised By Screens: 151 post URLs in the May 2024 sitemap, 83 of them revisions of Blogspot entries.[4][7]

Worst Boyfriend Ever, 2024–2026

Per "Why I'm Homeless Now," family and his girlfriend had read the work under his own name and worried, while his private notes had grown more sexual. In July 2024 he opened the anonymous Substack and posted about thirty stories in a week. A larger account shared "Craigslist Porn Star" (August 9, 2024), bringing the first real audience, and Johnston deleted the Substack under his own name.

On October 22, 2024, by his own dating, he quit the CPAP job, gave up his apartment, sold his possessions, bought a 2005 Chevrolet Astro for $4,000, and left Seattle ("The End of Worst Boyfriend Ever", November 26, 2024; "Why I'm Homeless Now"). The van period supplied the material above: the readers' bedrooms, the hit-and-run, the break-ins, the McDonald's parking lots. In April 2025 he self-published a book on Amazon. In October 2025 a friend bought him a one-way ticket to Manila and he left the van in Tacoma ("I Fled To The Philippines"). Late-2025 and 2026 posts are set in the Philippines and Japan, funded in part by sex-adjacent patrons: a reader described as an OnlyFans agency owner, "Faceless Francis," flew him to Tokyo to star in a documentary about sex tourism ("Playing Ping Pong With My Prostitute", July 5, 2026). The January 2026 reader scam netted him, again by his own count, at least $30,000.

His stated method, from "Why I'm Homeless Now": write soon after an event, set the draft aside, publish it later if it still feels true. The posts make competing claims about their own accuracy. "The End of Worst Boyfriend Ever" calls the stories literally true; "Why I'm Homeless Now" ends with a fiction disclaimer.

Discrepancies in the record

The record contains small contradictions that do not affect identification. The resume says USC began in August 2017; two memoir posts say fall 2016.[6] Blogspot posts and "Scamming My Audience for $30,000" put his birthday on January 5; "Why I'm Homeless Now" says he turned 25 on January 9, 2024.[5] One post places the childhood home in Kailua-Kona; a phone record points to Hilo. Fourteen Worst Boyfriend Ever posts were paid-only and their bodies were not retrieved; no claim on this page relies on them.
